London: Controversial all-rounder Andrew Symonds’ international career suffered a telling blow on Thursday when he was sent back from Australia’s T20 World Cup squad after yet another drinking incident.
Speculation was rife about Symonds being in trouble yet again after he missed a training session at the Oval.
He has a history of off-field problems dating back to Australia’s last tour to England in 2005, when he was punished after a late night drinking session on the evening of a match. He was not picked in the Australian Ashes squad.
Australia captain Ricky Ponting has called a news conference at the Oval to discuss the matter.
Australia are due to play West Indies on Saturday in their opening match of the Twenty20 World Cup.
